Glossary

Repack words, in one sentence each.

Break
A live stream where a host opens sealed boxes and buyers own a share of what comes out, by team, player or random slot.
Buyback
An offer from the platform to buy your pulled card back for a set share of its value. Check whether it's paid as cash or as site credit, and how long the offer lasts.
Ceiling
The highest-value card in a tier. Useful for excitement, useless for budgeting.
Cert number
An identifier printed on a slab's label. Compare its official record with the card and grade; a matching number alone does not authenticate the physical slab.
Chase card
An advertised or desirable card in a pack's pool. Its probability depends on the disclosed contents and selection rules.
Expected Value (EV)
A probability-weighted average of estimated card value, sometimes shown as a percentage of pack price. It depends entirely on the odds and values assumed, and it isn't a cash return or a prediction for one pack.
Fair market value (FMV)
A platform's estimate of what a card is worth, usually based on recent sales. Buyback offers are often a percentage of FMV, not of the pack price.
Floor
The stated minimum card value under a product's valuation method. It is not necessarily the typical outcome or a guaranteed cash payout.
Gacha machine
A chance-based purchase format inspired by capsule-toy machines. Whether its pool shrinks or its odds change depends on the product's rules.
Gem Mint
PSA's name for a 10: four sharp corners, full gloss and front centering within about 55/45.
Graded card (slab)
A card authenticated and scored by a grader such as PSA, CGC or Beckett, then sealed in a hard plastic case.
Hit draft
A break format where buyers take turns picking from the best cards pulled, in an order set by a random draw.
Insured value
The value a vault platform insures a card for. Collector Crypt uses it as the basis for its buyback rate.
Pool
Every card a repack can contain. A fair seller tells you how big the pool is and what's left in it.
Redemption
Asking a vault platform to ship your physical card to you. Expect shipping fees, and import tax outside the US.
Repack
A pack built by a reseller rather than the card manufacturer, with odds the reseller sets.
Resealed pack
A previously opened pack that has been closed again. Resealing can conceal tampering; its prevalence depends on the product and seller.
Rip
Opening a pack. On digital platforms, one rip is one pull.
Searched pack
A pack someone has weighed or felt to find the hits before selling it, leaving buyers the leftovers.
Tier
A price level of pack on the same platform, such as Starter, Pro or Grail. Each tier can have its own pool and odds.
Vault
A storage facility holding cards for a platform or customers. Check custody, insurance coverage, exclusions and redemption terms.
