Repacks vs Card breaks · updated October 2026
Repacks vs breaks: who opens the product, and what's yours
Short answer
In a repack, someone already chose the cards and you buy a sealed or digital pack of them. In a break, a host opens sealed product live and splits the cards among buyers by rules set before the break, such as by team. In both, read the rules before you pay.

| Measure | Repacks | Card breaks |
|---|---|---|
| What you buy | A pack someone assembled from singles | A spot in a sealed product being opened |
| Who chose the contents | The seller, before you buy | The manufacturer; the host splits it |
| How cards reach you | Whatever is in your pack | By allocation rules (team, player, random) |
| What to check | Published pool and buyback terms | The allocation rules and the host's record |
Choose Repacks if
- You want an instant result and, on some sites, a buyback offer
- You want a graded card rather than raw base cards
Choose Card breaks if
- You want to watch sealed product being opened
- You only want cards from one team or player
The core difference
Whatnot's breaks policy describes a break as sealed card products divided among buyers using defined allocation criteria. A repack skips the sealed product: the seller builds the pack from cards it already owns.
That means the question you ask changes. For a break, ask how cards are assigned. For a repack, ask what's in the pool and who decided.
Where things go wrong
With breaks, vague allocation rules are the red flag. With repacks, it's a pool you can't see or a chase card that may already be gone. Our guides on both cover what to ask.
