Graded (slab) repacks vs Raw card repacks · updated October 2026
Graded vs raw repacks: which one can you actually check?
Short answer
A graded repack hands you a card someone else has already condition-checked and given a cert number you can look up. A raw repack leaves condition to you. But high grades aren't rare: PSA says 90% of modern cards it graded since 2018 came back PSA 8 or higher, so "graded" alone isn't a selling point.

| Measure | Graded (slab) repacks | Raw card repacks |
|---|---|---|
| Condition | Set by a grader, printed on the label | Your call, and the buyer's |
| What you can verify | Cert number on the grader's site | Card identity only; condition is opinion |
| Counterfeit risk | Fake holders exist; check label and holder | Fake or altered cards; check in hand |
| What to watch | A high grade sold as if it were rare | Photos that hide corners and surface |
Choose Graded (slab) repacks if
- You want a cert you can look up before you pay
- You plan to resell and want a grade buyers recognise
Choose Raw card repacks if
- You want to grade the card yourself
- You collect for the card, not the label
A grade is a check, not a value
PSA reports that 90% of ultra-modern sports and modern TCG cards it graded since 2018 came back PSA 8 or higher. So a repack advertising "every pack is graded" is telling you about the packaging, not the card.
Check the card name, set, grader and grade together, then look at recent sold listings for that exact combination.
Raw repacks put the condition question on you
With raw cards, the seller's photos are your only condition evidence. Ask for close shots of corners and surface, and assume anything you can't see could be a flaw.
